Fortnite's newest limited time mode isn't very different at all from the default game mode. Bummer, right? Not exactly.
While the game mode itself isn't different from the normal Fortnite experience, the rewards are—the best players of the Solo Showdown LTM can win V-Bucks to spend in-game.
The rules are simple. Placements will be specially tracked all throughout the event. The higher you place in a match, the more points you get, and the more points you get, the higher you stand on the leaderboard.
For example, finishing in first place in a match will reward 100 points, while finishing in 100th place will earn you 25. All players in every match will receive points depending on how high they place. But the key is, only the first 50 matches played in Solo Showdown will count towards your final leaderboard score. In the event of a tie, total wins, total kills, and average placement will be used as a tiebreaker.
The player who finishes first overall will win 50,000 V-Bucks, but there are many other winners, too. Second through fourth place will win 25,000 V-Bucks, fifth through 50th will win 13,500 V-Bucks, and 51st through 100th place will win 7,500 V-Bucks. The full rules can be found on Epic's website.
This is a very cool way for Fortnite to dip its toe into competitive play. Speaking of which, Epic Games teased even more competitive news at the end of their announcement.
"Stay tuned," Epic said. "We have a major announcement about competitive play next week!"
If you want to test your mettle and win some V-Bucks, you'll have to get going soon—Solo Showdown runs from 9am CT on May 17 to 9am CT on May 21.
