Dragon Ball FighterZ Switch beta begins in August

It seems that Nintendo Switch owners and non-owners alike agree: every video game should be on this thing. No game has received as much demand quite like Dragon Ball FighterZ, the tag-team 2D fighting game from Bandai Namco and Guilty Gear creators Arc System Works released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC earlier this year. Now we know exactly how soon players will be able to go Super Saiyan on Nintendo Switch.

After several leaks, Nintendo unveiled Dragon Ball FighterZ for the Switch during this year’s E3. Originally released in January, the brawler became an instant hit to fighting game nuts and longtime Dragon Ball fans, with intuitive controls and a wealth of the animated series’ signature beefcakes. The game is so popular that it’s causing an upset at this year’s EVO tournament, getting more combatants than even Street Fighter.

A Switch version will likely reinvigorate the FighterZ base, making the frantic and explosive fighting game portable on top of everything else. The game is expected to release on Sept. 28, but before its full launch, Bandai Namco have announced the Switch version will have its own beta period at some point in August.

The Nintendo Switch isn’t only known for being portable, but for being accommodating to local multiplayer, for folks who’d rather trash talk across the couch than over the internet. To take advantage of this, Bandai Namco also announced the Switch version of Dragon Ball FigtherZ will arrive with two new modes: An offline, six-player Party Match option as well as 2v2 and 1v1 matches.
