Upcoming Rainbow Six Siege Patch Will Test Your Bandwidth
The third season of Rainbow Six Siege is due to begin soon and in preparation of it, Ubisoft will be deploying the mother of all patches. An upcoming Rainbow Six Siege patch is slated to weigh in at anywhere between 15GB on consoles to 42GB to PC if you enjoy the HD Texture Pack.
Data Cleanup – Season 3 Patch Size & PC HD Texture Pack
Ubisoft has posted a Dev Blog entry explaining why the forthcoming Season 3 patch will be so enormous in size. To save you the technical details, the issue boils down to how they have been conducting patches. Since Rainbow Six Siege is “here to stay”, the time is right for a big clean up patch that should allow future patches to be smaller and more convenient for players.
Having said that, the PC version that includes the HD Texture Pack is massive at 42GB. That’s larger than the size of many games and for those of us with bandwidth caps or less than super-fast Internet, it may be a bit of a headache. Plan to bring some patience with you for the day of this patch’s release.
Console players will be less bothered by the 15GB patch, though I personally shudder at the thought of downloading 15GB via the PlayStation Network. Below are the estimated patch sizes by platform.
|PC with Ultra HD Textures||42GB|
|PC without Ultra HD Textures||26GB|
Update 2.2.2 Patch Notes
While no release date has been set for the Data Cleanup patch, Ubisoft is releasing Update 2.2.2 on August 9th. This patch will bring key bug fixes along with some new features, including Dedicated Servers for Custom Matches, Terrorist Hunt, and In-Game Voice Chat.
The patch will also bring fixes to the vaulting animation while aiming, as seen in the animation below.
Finally, there are some goodies up for grab for long-time players, Season 2 Pass owners, and anyone who’s playing Rainbow Six Siege during Operation Health.
We here at TL;DR Games are glad that Ubisoft has thrown so much support behind Rainbow Six Siege as it has been one of our favorite shooters in recent memories. Bring on Season 3!
