Techland has announced Dying Light 2 as part of the Microsoft showcase at E3. The game follows on from the original, and once again the world is beset by zombies. This time they also try to take a look at the darker sides of men. You can watch the announcement trailer below.

At the conference they talked a lot about the impact that decision making would have for your game. The decisions you make, and how you interact with the world, will set off chain reactions between the people who live there. There may also be a lot of unintended consequences that you have to deal with. For more info on how that works, check out the gameplay trailer.

I really enjoyed the original Dying Light, and found myself very entertained by the combination of parkour and zombie smashing. The movement system was fantastic, and I really hope to see it expanded upon in the new game.

Pawel Marchewka, Techland CEO, had the following to say in a press release about the upcoming game.

We are very close to our community, and we’ve clearly heard their requests for the new game. I know we kept them waiting, so I’m more than excited to finally announce: Dying Light 2 is coming. Dying Light 2 will be a truly bold sequel, combining the much loved Dying Light DNA with completely new ways to play. For the first time in the franchise, players will have the power to decide the fate of a decaying metropolis with their own choices and actions. Across the story, the melee combat, the parkour movement, and other aspects of the game, we’re giving players a completely new level of freedom.

I would have to classify this announcement as a welcome surprise. I am not sure why, but a new Dying Light simply wasn’t something I had considered seeing at this year’s E3. I am very happy we did, though!
