Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was first announced at the 2018 Game Awards. It is the third game in the Ultimate Alliance franchise, an action role-playing game series. The games have you control a team of four of your favorite superheroes from the Marvel universe.

Ultimate Alliance 3 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, which is shocking considering the previous titles were available on multiple consoles. Team Ninja, the developers of the Dead and Alive series, are handling Ultimate Alliance 3.

On social media, Nintendo has unveiled the cover art for the game, as well as the release date. The game will release on July 19. The cover art features dozens of characters from the Marvel universe, though it isn’t strictly following the cinematic universe version of Marvel.

Wolverine, who was featured heavily in the announcement trailer, is also featured prominently on the cover art. Wolverine, along with the other X-Men, has been mostly excluded in video games and merchandise based on Marvel. This may be due to the fact that most games are influenced around the cinematic universe, which does not feature the X-Men.

This was a huge point of contention among fans, especially when it came to 2017’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, which featured no X-Men characters.

Both the trailer and the box art appear to remedy this mistake; not only is Wolverine featured heavily in the advertising, but other X-Men are also shown off. Storm, Nightcrawler, and even Deadpool will be playable characters in the game.

Other noticeable surprises on the Ultimate Alliance 3’s box art is that the Miles Morales’ version of Spider-Man and the Gwen Stacy version of Spider-Woman will also be among the roster. They were the stars of the critically acclaim Into the Spider-Verse movie.

Marvel’s most popular heroes will be in the game, such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, and Black Panther. Captain Marvel, Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Venom, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow are also featured on the cover.

Presumably, this won’t be the full roster. There were several characters in the announcement trailer that aren’t on the cover, like Gamora and the Inhumans.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is slated to be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on July 19.
