We’ve already reported about Borderlands 3 plans for DLC, four of them are coming, and they will be story-based. But what about the chance that those additional pieces of content could introduce more vault hunters?
Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has offered a fan asking that precise question, recalling the times of Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel, a response about how the studio is moving towards the completion of the development while looking at the DLC.
“We are focused on the main game for now,” Pitchford said at first, before diving into the matter in total transparency (or at least we’re led to think so).
“But my feelings are that it might be better for us to put our time into expanding what the existing vault hunters can do and how interesting their future growth is instead of adding new ones to start over with. Data seems to support this.”
When another user claimed that new characters could bring in more hours of playtime instead of a simple expansion of the existing characters’ skill trees, Pitchford replied that his data claim the exact opposite.
“That is true for some users, but my analysis of the data suggests the vast majority of players would benefit from expansion to existing characters ahead of the creation of new characters,” he said, before adding that “now’s not the time for this, though, we have a game to finish!.” So kind of leaving the door open perhaps based on what fans will be asking after the release of the title.
Borderlands 3 is dropping on September 13, 2019, for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, so it won’t take ages before we learn more about those post-launch plans.
