Final Fantasy VII Remake Reportedly Still Episodic

A few hours ago, at the State of Play, we had been showcased a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, the long-awaited PlayStation 4 timed exclusive game.

While details are still sparse on how it'll play, as the title will once again pop up at Square Enix's E3 2019 video presentation, we've something new to share with you about it.

Indeed, a post that has been published on Square Enix's Japanese website might be hinting at the fact that FFVII Remake is still planned as an episodic release.

We're not 100% sure about that since the post has been translated from Japanese by a Twitter user who claims it to be saying the remake is "split into parts (分作)."

Anyway, when translating with Google Translate the post from Japanese to English, we get a quite different version: "separate work." This means not a work separated into multiple parts, but just a different thing from the original game, made from scratch.

"And, “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” which will be reborn on PlayStation 4, will be reworked as a separate work, with many of the contents being reviewed when performing a full remake," says that portion of the post as translated in English with Google Translate.

So, we're still in doubt about the game being split into parts, but we'll learn more at E3 2019 next month.

It remains to be seen how Square Enix handles this: whether it is going to be a more linear action RPG adventure without open world sections or a total rebuilding of the game that makes sure each episode has its fair share of open-world gameplay.

More details, again, this June.
