Capcom has had a huge comeback over the last two or three years, thanks to the successful revival of Resident Evil with the latest chapters being very appreciated by fans and a really good Devil May Cry 5.

The company is indeed already looking at the future in order not to waste this potential and, as shared in the recent earnings report, it happens to have an engine which is capable of supporting the next generation consoles yet.

That engine is the RE Engine, which has been used as a foundation for both Resident Evil 7 and 2, and the latest Devil May Cry - making all them look very sweet.

“The games we developed using the RE Engine during this current hardware generation have received critical acclaim, and from the early stages of building this engine we kept the ability to augment it for next generation development in mind,” said Capcom.

“As such, we view the RE Engine as one of our strengths that will contribute to next generation game creation,” the company added about what’s next for it and gaming overall.

With consoles being closer and closer to PC in terms of architectures, it looks rather safe to state that many other developers won’t be required to change their tools a lot for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, which are reportedly being developed with the idea of building platforms easy to develop for.

Anyway, with the level of quality and photorealism achieved with the RE Engine, Capcom will, sure enough, leading graphics on those newest consoles, too, and this makes the decision of carrying it over the next gen a very good one.
