Capcom has revealed it has multiple titles in the making based on the much appreciated RE Engine, the engine behind Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 among the others.

Interestingly, some of these titles are pointing directly to the next generation of platforms, since the engine is said to be ready to support PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

“The games we developed using the RE ENGINE during this current hardware generation have received critical acclaim,” it is reported in the recent financial briefing from Capcom.

“From the early stages of building this engine, we kept the ability to augment it for next-generation development in mind; as such, we view the RE ENGINE as one of our strengths that will contribute to next-generation game creation.

While we are unable to comment on the specific number of titles or release windows, there are numerous titles currently being developed internally with the RE ENGINE.”

It is worth noting that the fact that the RE Engine is next-gen ready is also due to longer development cycles, which will lead Capcom not to release major titles before March 2020.

With this in mind, we can say that the last piece of content for PS4 and Xbox One from the Japanese developer will be Iceborne, the expansion to Monster Hunter World.

“It is a reality that development cycles are trending longer for games developed to a world-leading standard. As such, it is possible that there will be a single major new title release in a given fiscal year due to the composition of our title pipeline,” says the report.

While it’s great to see that Capcom will be using the RE Engine, since it’s proven to be great in terms of graphics, it’s also sad to learn that it’ll require more time to release major games moving on.

This means indeed that Resident Evil 3 Remake and even Resident Evil 8 could be a bit more distant than what we expected.
