Breath of the Wild 2 team inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2
Legendary Nintendo games producer Eiji Aonuma, who has directed or/and produced almost every Zelda game since the release of Majora’s Mask on the N64, has spoken of the influences on the development of the new sequel to Breath of the Wild, with Red Dead Redemption 2 being a highlighted game.
In an interview the IGN, when Aonuma was asked about what games the team played that influenced the development of the game, he said “[Something] I did hear that a lot of people were playing was Red Dead Redemption 2."
He also spoke about the influences on the original game, stating that opening world game Skyrim was a big influence to the game’s director, Hidemaro Fujibayashi.
When questioned about what he’s been playing recently, Aonuma noted "Recently I've been very busy, especially with Link's Awakening... So on my breaks, I've been playing Cadence of Hyrule. So I've been kind of overloaded with a lot of Zelda recently."
There are influences can be seen in the original Breath of the Wild that would make sense for Red Dead Redemption 2 to be an influence, with attention to detail and the deep, rich lore of both games running true. How much of Rockstar’s game will have on the sequel to Breath of the Wild is yet to be seen, but with both games being critically acclaimed hits, it’s unsurprising that both seem to take notes from each other.
The new game was confirmed to be in development in a surprise video at the end of Nintendo’s E3 Direct. It’s unlikely to see release until fall 2020 at the earliest.
