Angry Mole Mr. Resetti Lost His Job in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Getting Replaced by an Auto-save Function
It turns out not everyone can keep their job as technology improvements make their tasks obsolete, and this remains the case in video games. It looks like the angry mole, Mr. Resetti, is going to lose his job in Animal Crossing: New Horizons where he would remind the player to save their game if they haven't done so in a significant amount of time. He's getting replaced with a new auto-save function.
The details of the firing came up during an interview with Mashable at E3 2019. Mashable spoke to Animal Crossing: New Horizons project lead Aya Kyogoku.
"Unfortunately, because there's no necessity to reset the game or reset button on the Switch, Mr. Resetti had a hard time. He was laid off from his position," Kyogoku detailed during the interview. "I think this will be a position thing for the player because in New Horizons you can stop playing the middle of your game and it'll still save."
While Mr. Resetti did lose his job, it's a great move forward for players. They're going to have the opportunity to pause the game or turn it off without any fear of having lost any significant progress in the game. With the move from a handheld system to the Nintendo Switch, including an auto-save function makes sense.
However, despite Mr. Resetti losing his job, you can bet you're going to see him again.
"We also believe that Mr. Resetti is looking for a new job after his layoff. So please look forward to that," Kyogoku hinted at during the interview.
It looks like Mr. Resetti could still make an appearance in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with a brand new role, too. What that role is going to do is anyone's guess.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons did receive a delay during Nintendo's press conference. They're pushing it back to March 20, 2020, but you can still pre-order the game before it releases.
