Microsoft Ending Support On Halo Wars 2

Microsoft has become one of the more supportive publishers around as they support their online games. They've changed several games from when they initially launched, such as State of Decay 2 and Sea of Thieves.

However, it looks like they're making an exception when it comes to Halo Wars 2. The real-time strategy title has not been as successful as other online games, despite the passionate community behind it.

"As awesome as all of these requests are, and as much as we personally share these same desires, the unfortunate reality is that we currently are unable to commit to any future Halo Wars 2 continued development or support at this time," 343 Industries shared in a note revealing the end of the game's support.

"The same team that is currently working on bringing MCC to PC and Halo: Reach to MCC (the 343 Publishing Team) is also the team that helped make Halo Wars 2 a reality," 343 wrote. "With the large scope and immense amount of work surrounding MCC for PC, the resources that were previously focused on Halo Wars 2 have been pulled over to help support MCC and Halo: Reach development."

The talented RTS focused team at Creative Assembly and 343 Industries partnered to develop the project. Beyond the traditional Halo titles, 343 Industries doesn't usually work on the strategy game genre. There's a chance that 343 are focusing on the first-person shooter portion of the Halo franchise. As such, they may not have enough resources to justify the making of add-ons and balance refinements to Halo Wars 2.

Halo Wars 2 received 18 content updates and over 30 balance patches since release in 2017. You can check the original announcement here.
