According to Kojima, “you can enjoy First Person View but not a First Person Shooter game,” as he likes to call it “a brand new game genre that adapted the concept of strand that we call Action Game, Strand Game (Social Strand System).”
If you remember, this isn’t the first time we hear about the first-person view. In The Game Awards 2017 trailer, we saw Sam swim in a first-person view, and that scene was said to be some purgatory he had to swim his way through upon death, some interactive replacement for the usual game over screen.
However, it is not clear if the Japanese game designer and director only refers to that gameplay mechanic or is hinting at something deeper. It could also be like previous Metal Gear Solid games where you had a first-person view you could use anytime to have a better look on the environment.
As for the genre, the game is coming as part of, Kojima acknowledged that “the name of the new genre shouldn’t be made from the creator, but it should come with it later on, but forgive me I just like to name it. It’s like I named Tactical Espionage Action for MG before categorizing into Stealth game, I named Social Strand System for DS.”
That will also be something interesting to look into, as he always mentions this “strand game,” but we have not seen this “social strand system” in action yet, or at least we think so. There are so many things to discover as you can see, but also so few months left until the release this November.
