A brand new trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot released at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2019. The trailer shows off new footage of the video game with an official release date for the game.

Kakarot is an upcoming RPG, action-adventure, open-world video game taking place in Dragon Ball universe. Dragon Ball is a multimedia franchise that initially began as a manga and anime. The franchise centers on a martial artist named Goku, who started his journey as a monkey tailed boy searching for the seven mythical wish-fulfilling dragon balls. Eventually, he becomes one of Earth’s protectors from the galaxy’s strongest warriors. The name Kakarot is Goku’s birth name. In the series’ next iteration, Dragon Ball Z, we learn Goku is not human but a Sayian, a warrior-race of aliens.

Dragon Ball Z is an anime adaptation of the second half of the Dragon Ball manga. Z is often split up between four major story arcs; the four sagas are called Saiyan, Namekian, Androids, and Buu Sagas.

Original footage for the Kakarot video game made the game appear as if it will only go up to the Androids Saga. However, at this year’s TGS, the new trailer showed cutscenes taking place during the Buu Saga. This footage officially confirms Kakarot will cover all significant sagas from the anime.

The new trailer also revealed the release the date for the game. The game is slated to release on Jan. 17, 2020.

The game is also offering pre-order bonuses. Pre-ordering the game gives players a new sub-quest labeled “A Competitive Party With Friends.” Another pre-order bonus is early access to train with Bonyu, a brand new character created for the game. Bonyu is a former member of the Ginyu Force, an intergalactic team that worked for the malicious tyrant, Frieza. The last pre-order bonus shown in the trailer is the inclusion of one cooking item.

The collector edition of the game was also showed off. The collector edition includes the full game, a hardcover art book, SteelBook case, and a statue. The statue is of Goku flying with his son, Gohan, on the magical nimbus cloud; there’s also a dinosaur walking right next to them. The cover art for the game is a simple image of Goku riding on Nimbus.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Jan. 17, 2020.
