EVE Online Launches Localized Korean Client
EVE Online, the galaxy-spanning MMORPG can sometimes feel more like a second job than a game, is expanding into new territory. Developer CCP has announced the full localization for the game’s client into Korean. That means a whole new population of people are ready to jump into EVE Online’s intense interstellar politics in their own language.
CCP also announced that it would be at G-Star 2019, a huge gaming convention in Korea, to support its newly localized game. Hilmar V. Petursson, the company’s CEO, will give a presentation during the conference, and other developers from the team will be in attendance. Attendees at G-Star will get the chance to play EVE Online’s Korean version hands-on and even get a taste of some high-level play that generally wouldn’t be available to people freshly launched into space. Petursson has previously stated that EVE Online had 300,000 active players in the first few months of 2019.
As CCP points out, the expected influx of new Korean players will be a boon to all players in Asia-Pacific time zones. The boost of new players means more potential members in existing corporations, and more prey for pirates in the region. EVE Online already has active player populations in Japan and China, who will all see an incoming wave of Korean players on their existing servers.
To mark the launch of EVE Online’s Korean version, CCP also shared two new trailers, available on its YouTube channel. One features a pre-rendered cinematic that gives an overview of EVE Online’s story, and another is a more in-depth look at gameplay that tries to explain EVE’s incredibly dense and cutthroat mechanics to new players.
