Spencer didn’t reveal the final price tag, of course, but hinted at Microsoft’s will to learn and put into practice the lesson of the Xbox One launch flop back in 2013. The console released at $100 more than PS4, and that determined an entire generation debacle.
“I would say learning from the Xbox One generation is we will not be out of position on power or price,” Xbox head Phil Spencer, who’s already played his first next-gen title a few months ago, told The Verge. “If you remember the beginning of this generation, we were a hundred dollars more expensive, and yes, we were less powerful. And we started Project Scarlett with this leadership team in place with a goal of having market success.”
“We’re all-in on Project Scarlett, and I want to compete, and I want to compete in the right ways which is why we’re focused on cross-play and backward compatibility,” he added, sharing how Microsoft really wants to invest in gaming and try to have a word when it comes to leading the next generation of console.
We do know that Project Scarlett is launching in the Holiday season next year, in the same launch window of the PS5, and that the console will get a proper reveal at E3 2020 with more games and news about what we can expect from the next-gen.
