The Pokémon Company has officially announced that Gigantamax Snorlax will be coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield. For a limited time only, Gigantamax Snorlax will be appearing in Max Raid Battles, beginning on Dec. 4 and running until Jan. 2020.

Initially discovered in a data mine of the game at release, Gigantamax Snorlax is not the only new Pokémon you can expect to arrive in the coming months. Data miners have also discovered references to Gigantamax Melmetal, for instance, and many more. It would seem there are plenty more Pokémon on their way into the game, but they will be part of limited-time events, or perhaps as giveaways during certain promotions.

To get your hands on Gignatamax Snorlax, you will need to take part in Max Raid Battles. These can be found at glowing dens in the Wild Area, and they feature teams of players taking on powerful Pokémon. For the lucky ones who encounter Gigantax Snorlax, you will also be able to capture the sleeping giant.

Despite considerable disappointment from fans in the run-up to release, Pokémon Sword and Shield has quickly become the fastest-selling Switch title ever. While many fans were unhappy with the size of the Galar Region Pokédex and were going to miss out on their favorite Pokémon, this doesn’t appear to have impacted either the game’s critical reception or sales figures.
