Niantic has announced the Evolution Event for Pokémon Go, which will focus on Pokémon that evolve in non-traditional ways. The event begins on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 1pm PST and end a week later, on Dec. 12, at 1pm PST.

Typically, a Pokémon will evolve after leveling it up to a specific a level, or, in the case for Pokémon Go, by feeding them a certain amount of candies. There are some Pokémon that need to be evolved through different means, though. Some Pokémon need certain evolution stones to evolve, or they need to hold onto an item while being traded. Some Pokémon evolutions are gender exclusive, whereas others need specific lure modules.

For the Evolution Event, Pokémon Go will have Pokémon with unique evolutions, like Roselia, Onix, and Scyther, become more common in the wild. Participating players will also be rewarded with Evolution items by accomplishing Field Research. There will also be a bonus Raid Day during that weekend.

Here’s a list of features and bonuses for the Evolution Event:

Features

  • Pokémon that evolve in unique ways—such as Onix, Eevee, Roselia, and Burmy—will be appearing more often in the wild, in raids, and in Field Research.
  • Take on raids against Pokémon with unique Evolutions, like Lickitung, Scyther, Togetic, and Ralts!
  • Find more 2 km Eggs that will hatch into Pokémon such as Tyrogue, Feebas, Burmy, and Happiny.
  • Event-specific Field Research tasks that reward Evolution items, which can help you evolve certain Pokémon, will be available.
  • If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Burmy!

Bonuses

  • All Lure Modules will last one hour for the duration of the event, including the Glacial, Magnetic, and Mossy Lure Modules.
  • 2× XP when evolving Pokémon
  • Evolution items from raids

The bonus Evolution Raid Day will happen on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 11am to 2pm local time. The Raid Day will have the original three starters from Pokémon Red and Blue, and their evolutions will start spawning in more raids. Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle can be encountered in one-star raids; Ivysaur, Charmeleon, and Wartortle will be in two-star raids; while Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise will be in four-star raids. Players can also receive an additional five Raid Passes during the day.
