A new BioShock game has finally been announced, and with the latest entry in the franchise, we also got to learn about the new internal 2K Games studio that is going to work on it, Cloud Chamber.

According to a report from Kotaku, though, this new Bioshock game has been in the making since 2015, when 2K Games contracted an outside studio to do it, an Austin, Texas-based Certain Affinity, known for its work on Call of Duty and Halo titles.

That contract only lasted two years, and by the end of 2016, 2K had already decided for unknown reasons to pull the project out of the team and build a new BioShock game internally. It’s not clear if that project, codenamed Parkside, is still alive in some fashion at Cloud Chamber, or the studio has started all over again when it approached the job in 2017.

However, what we know for the official is that series creator Ken Levine is “not involved with this project,” according to the details shared by Cloud Chamber studio head Kelley Gilmore in an interview with GameSpot.

“Ken has his new company called Ghost Story Games,” Gilmore reminded. With that studio, Levine is working on a new immersive sim in the vein of System Shock 2 after the closure of Irrational Games.

“From what I understand, they’re pretty immersed in creating whatever great thing they’re working on, which we all know something will come out of there that’s amazing as usual. So he’s involved with that, and he’s not involved with this project,” she added.

However, several members of the Cloud Chamber staff have been part of Irrational Games back in the BioShock and BioShock Infinite days, including Art Director Scott Sinclair, Hoagy de la Plante (now Creative Director), and Jonathan Pelling (now Design Director), the studio head confirmed in a recent interview with GamesRadar.
