Splatoon 2 is getting a much-needed injection of new content this week on Nov. 23. The free update will add four new battle stages, four hairstyles, new music tracks, a new Salmon Run stage, and more.
The four battle stages will make their appearance on Nov. 24, beginning just in time for Black Friday with the shopping center MakoMart. It’s jam-packed with cool little items to browse through as you’re splatting your friends. If you’re not rushing out to grab a bargain at the stores with their burgeoning Black Friday deals, you can stay home and challenge your friends to Splatoon 2 matches. It’s almost like the real thing, except for all the colorful paint everywhere.
After MakoMart, the Shellendorf Institute, Walleye Warehouse, and Arowana Mall are coming to the map rotation from the first Splatoon. The level cap is being raised from 50 to 99 as well, with a new prestige system. Once you hit level 99 for the first time, you can prestige a la Call of Duty, which will take you back to level 1, which adds a star next to your level. The new Salmon Run stage is a welcome addition as well, undoubtedly one of the most fun aspects of Splatoon 2 in general.
Interestingly enough, there’s also a new game mode coming in December known as Clam Blitz. Nintendo describes it as a mode where you collect clams around the stage, which then start following you around. You then need to slam it into the basket near your opponent’s base to be the first to score 100 points. It may sound simple, but there’s also a barrier on your opponent’s basket that you have to destroy before swishing a clam in. You’ll have to collect 10 clams to earn Power Clams strong enough to break through the barrier in the first place. It sounds a little convoluted, but also pleasantly challenging.
These are plenty of reasons to jump back into Splatoon 2 if you retired it for a bit, so check it out between the holiday festivities this week.
