Assassin’s Creed Origins Trailer Shows Off New Stealth Gameplay


Assassin’s Creed has always prided itself on its stealth gameplay. Ever since the series’ first title, the games have mixed sleek parkour movement with chase scenes, hunting targets, and navigating patrolled areas. And with Assassin’s Creed Origins on the way, a new trailer shows off the improved stealth features coming with the series’ latest release.

The player can forward time while hunting targets, letting Bayek of Siwa wait for an opportune moment to strike a patrolled area, according to Ubisoft. While time is fast-forwarded, some guards will go to sleep, while others will begin their daily routines, suggesting that Origins’ time of day will impact the patrol route behind an objective.

Guard AI has changed significantly, too. If the player is spotted by an enemy, guards won’t notice Bayek as an assassin right away. Instead, they will be alert without immediately growing suspicious of the player’s intentions. As a result, guards will investigate when Bayek is spotted, which can split up an enemy patrol and allow the player to pick off foes one by one during their confusion.

Bayek also has a wide arsenal for sneak attacks, including sleep knives, poison, and tamed animals. Plus there’s Bayek’s predator bow, which allows the player to guide an arrow to kill enemies. And Bayek’s eagle, Senu, can be upgraded to harass target, distracting guards so Bayek can execute a fatal blow.

Assassin’s Creed Origins launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 27, 2017. The game details the formation of the Brotherhood of Assassins in Ancient Egypt, with Bayek serving as its first member. Expect more gameplay reveals as Origins’ release date approaches.
