Light Fall is an indie platform puzzler currently in development by Canadian shop Bishop Games. While it is not scheduled to be released on Steam until sometime in March, 2018, it’s noticeable because of its unique gameplay mechanics. In typical side-scrolling platform fashion, your character will have to avoid dying through any number of fatal means. What’s unique, however, is that in Light Fall, you get to control the platforms.
The Shadow Core
The Shadow Core is a magical box that you can spawn beneath your feet to propel you over obstacles, or to save yourself from a deadly fall. Bishop Games uses this mechanic to let you explore the Forgotten World of Numbra at your own pace.
With the Shadow Core in hand, reach new heights and explore every nook and cranny of Numbra. Wander through the Lunar Plain, the Marshlands of Sorrows, the Vipera’s Forest and the Unknown Depths, where shortcuts, alternative paths, hidden collectibles and easter eggs await you in large numbers.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientists to see that, not only will this game lends itself well to speedruns, but it also offers a rather unique angle on a classic genre. The game’s art style itself is reminiscent of some of the all-time great platform indie games on PC, and the fact that the game is being developed right here in Canada, means I will pay close attention to it.
Light Fall has already won several indie game awards and you can follow its development on its Steam page until its release in March 2018.
