Bungie pulled back the curtain on Destiny 2’s first expansion, Curse of Osiris, in a livestream today.
The developers revealed a number of story details, concept art, and even showed some live gameplay of some of the new locations found in the DLC, which will release on all platforms on Dec. 5.
One of the main focal points of Curse of Osiris is the planet of Mercury, which has been repurposed by the robot race known as the Vex. On Mercury there’s a place called the Infinite Forest, which is described as “a reality engine the Vex use to simulate all the aspects of reality that they can touch, because they are looking for something specific.”
The Infinite Forest will offer multiple ways to play, including visiting past, present, and future versions of Mercury, all while being different every time. Bungie said that, while the areas are not procedurally generated, there will be different enemy encounters and combinations of enemies each time you play it.
The Lighthouse returns as Mercury’s “hub” of sorts, and something of a social space where you will return numerous times to find and turn in missions and quests. The destination vendor of Mercury will be Brother Vance, Destiny 1’s Trials of Osiris vendor, and he will offer new gear and Lighthouse Engrams with a Power level of up to 330.
Players will be able to unlock quests once the DLC campaign is complete, and completing them will allow players to forge Vex-modified weapons.
After the developers explored the Lighthouse, they went outside into the fields of Mercury and showed off the new patrol area, which will be filled with activities and events like Lost Sectors and Public Events.
For fans of the Leviathan Raid, Bungie confirmed new Raid content coming with Curse of Osiris, called Raid Lairs. The first Lair is called “Leviathan, Eater of Worlds” and will return you to the Leviathan ship. This time, instead of attacking the palace, you will explore the underbelly of the ship with all new areas stocked with new puzzles, new encounters, and a new final boss.
A second Raid Lair will be added sometime in the spring with the game’s second expansion. This type of content allows Bungie to add more Raid content all while fleshing out the massive Leviathan ship in a big way.
The Raid Lair will offer new armor, weapons, and cosmetics all at a higher level. The original Leviathan Raid will also be brought up to max Power as well.
It seems like there will be a decent amount of new PvE content once Curse of Osiris releases on Dec. 5, but Bungie has two more streams coming up in the next few weeks to show off even more of what the expansion will have to offer.
