Resident Evil 7, the latest installment in popular Resident Evil video game franchise, is scheduled to launch worldwide on January 24. Whatever media assets of Resident Evil 7 has been released by Capcom so far, they all got a positive reception from fans and critics and it seems like on this note Capcom has predicted to sell 4 million copies of the game at launch.
The expected sales figure was revealed by Capcom at the recent earnings report. The publisher termed Resident Evil 7 a “foundation title” and said the lifetime sales of the game is expected to grow strongly due to a big rise in digital distribution field which in turn give “revenue not limited to the next two fiscal years but into the long term as well.”
This looks like a smart internal prediction from Capcom. The last game in the franchise, Resident Evil 7 sold only 4.8 million units worldwide by the end of 2012 (in three months time as the game was released in October 2012). So the prediction of Resident Evil 7 selling 4 million copies at launch is not too far behind RE6’s disappointing sales by the end of 2012.
Critics eyes will also be on the lifetime sales of Resident Evil 7, there will be waiting eagerly to see whether or not RE7 passes the lifetime sales of Resident Evil 5 (sold 6.5 million since launch in 2009 to 2013).
