After four years of being left in darkness, the original unreleased music to Destiny has been leaked on Reddit.
“Music of the Spheres” was composed by long-time Halo composer Marty O’Donnell, Michael Salvatori, and Paul McCartney. Due to contract disputes and an ugly parting between O’Donnell and Bungie, the music was never officially released.
But yesterday, on Christmas Day, a Reddit user by the name of “OS_Epsilon” was finally able to get their hands on the full 50 minutes of music. Bungie did not want this released, although the three composers did, and now it’s finally out there.
“The composers of Halo said this was their greatest work,” said OS_Epsilon. “They were not wrong.”
The music is “a symphonic and choral suite in eight movements,” and it sounds more like something out of a big budget movie than a video game. Each movement was tied to a location in the game’s early iterations, like the moon, Mercury, and Venus, and they all have their own key.
It’s a great day for fans of Destiny and video game music overall. Take a listen for yourself and see how Destiny was originally meant to sound.
