Producer Yosuke Saito has finally revealed why Platinum Games and Square Enix are not considering a Nier Automata Xbox One version currently. According to Saito, as he told Express, Xbox One sales are not good enough in Japan to consider such version to be released anytime soon, on the contrary to the original Nier for Xbox 360.
“There are currently no plans to release on this platform. The main reason for this is that the Japanese market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms,” he said in a recent interview.
“The biggest benefit to developing on one platform is that we did not have to split our time, allowing us to focus more on the quality. It is not about whether one platform is better than the other, it’s that from a development point of view were can devote more time to one platform.”
After Scalebound was canceled, on top of that, is easy to guess there’s no particular pressure from Platinum Games to have Nier Automata released on Xbox One. But the main issue there seems to be Square Enix having a particular attention to PS4 and Sony overall.
