Are you still waiting for the release of DriveClub Free PlayStation Plus Edition on PS4? Prepare to get disappointed as Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President Jim Ryan has stated that there is “no Guarantee” that it will ever release.
Speaking to our friend at Metro, Jim Ryan said that Sony and Evolution Studios are still looking at it, but when asked whether he could guarantee a release, Ryan replied: “I can’t say anything at this stage.”
DriveClub PlayStation Plus edition was initially scheduled to launch in October 2013 but its launch was delayed indefinitely following significant connectivity issues at launch, however, Sony went ahead with the full retail version and just delayed the free edition.
After DriveClub launch woes, a lot of questions were raised by critics and gaming community on the way Sony handles its first party titles. Ryan admitted that “Driveclub” launch woes were “painful” and they are making sure that such issue do not come up again with future PS4 games.
“We have two roles to play, right?. We are a publisher of content in our own right and we are the platform holder who overlays a level of what is called format QA. Obviously the lessons that we learnt in the context of Driveclub were many and painful, and will be applied internally in the context of every first party title that we publish going forward.”
