Evolution Studios DriveClub will launch in few days, but Game Director Paul Rustchynsky is still sharing new details about the game via NeoGaf and Twitter. Recently, Paul talked about missing Shadows in DriveClub, Split-Screen and many more things.
One complaint that fans had about DriveClub was in certain gameplay footage cars seems to cast no shadows whatsover under certain lighting condition. Rustchynsky clarified via Neogaf that this issue is not due to the fact that shadows are inaccurate but because they are more accurate than usual shadows. Read the full explaination issued by Paul below.
I have to admit that it took me a while to get used to this, but it is entirely physically accurate – we don’t use fake shadows or mask sunlight by ambient occlusion, which often hides this ‘effect’.
Under strong lighting conditions and from the right angle there won’t be a shadow visible beneath the car. To show this I took a car out into the Evo car park, parked it so the sun was from directly behind and held a camera up in the air at similar angle to the chase camera.
Nothing is faked or baked in this image either ; ) Number plates have been obviously obscured though.
Paul further stated that although the game has achieved Gold Status, development team is still working to make an improvement which will be applied via future patch. Paul stated that Tunnel Lighting has already been improved and future updates won’t just be about new features but many graphics/visuals improvements.
Tunnel lighting has already been updated to look even better, you’ll hopefully notice the improvements in a future game update ; )
