If you see a button for “Custom Matchmaking” in Fortnite on PC this weekend, don’t get too excited just yet.
The developers at Epic Games confirmed that this weekend will be a test of a form of private matches during DreamHack Winter from Dec. 1 to 3. This does, however, confirm that private matches will be coming to the game eventually.
“The “Custom Matchmaking” button will be disabled at the end of the event and cannot be used outside of the event,” Epic Games said. “We will share more information on private matches and how you can use them in the new year.”
The prospects of private matches in Fortnite are obviously very exciting, especially for Fortnite: Battle Royale. This immediately opens up the door for future esports events, both amateur and professional. It appears that Epic is open to ideas, though.
“In the meantime, we know that you know there are lots of uses for private matches,” said Epic. “Let us know how you would like to see private matches used.”
You can offer your feedback on the game’s official forums.
