H1Z1 will be free to try out for a week

If you’re enjoying PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on Xbox One, you might want to check out H1Z1, the battle royale game that predates PUBG. It’s still a lot of fun, and best of all it’s getting a week of free access.

Starting today, Dec. 14, H1Z1 will be free to access until Thursday, Dec. 21 at 10 AM PST. If you’re looking to explore the rest of the battle royale genre, you should give it a try, especially as it has a lot to offer. PUBG’s Brendan Greene had an important hand in revamping the game to offer a battle royale mod that became an integral part of H1Z1 after it was unfairly decried as a DayZ copy at first.

If you’re interested in trying the game out, you can head to the official Steam page to download it, and if you like what you see you can pick up the full game at a discount. Any progress you make while trying it for free will be kept for the full game.

There’s a lot to see, especially if you haven’t checked out H1Z1 since its inception. While it has its own set of issues, it’s still an entertaining and worthwhile example of the genre that you should be able to have a lot of fun with your friends in.
