Last week, 343 Industries and Microsoft announced the new installment in Halo franchise, Halo 5: Guardians. The developer/publisher teased the gaming world with an official cover art of Halo 5: Guardians featuring an mysterious Spartan (which is neither Cortana nor Palmer, as confirmed by Frank O’Connor).
Where we are heading with Halo 5: Guardians, what exactly is the role of Master Chief and more questions are running through the mind of Halo series franchise fans. Recently, Bonnie Ross and Frank O’Connor of 343 Industries spoke to our friend at The Guardian on topic of where series is going with Halo 5: Guardians.
Frank O’Connor confirmed that “This is a continuation of the story from Halo 4,”
And about future of Master Chief, he Connor stated: “When we left him in Halo 4, he’s in a really challenging position,”
“He’s questioning many things he once firmly believed were true. He’s lost his best friend, he’s questioning his past and his purpose, he’s question who he is fighting for.”
“For us this is a really interesting point. For the first time he’s questioning everything he’s done for the UNSC in the past. Just as with past titles, we’re being really open about the fact that we want to tell this story over more than one game – this is about Master Chief’s journey: it’s about his past and his future.”
When asked whether development team at 343 Industries are going to provide much much darker, more personal adventure of Master Chief with Halo 5: Guardians? Ross replied:
“If you look at Halo 1, 2 and 3 and know the origin story and know the fiction well, Master Chief is our hero, he is you, and he is saving humanity… but its been at a huge cost to his life and there are things going on – you saw them in 4 – that make him question who is calling the shots. Is he doing the right thing? That’s very interesting for us to explore.”
When pressed further for some more story details on Halo 5: Guardians, Ross replied with a smile:
“You’re asking questions we just can’t answer! We learned a ton from Halo 4, and having the abilities we have with Xbox One… it has opened up doors on things we could never have done before. We’re very excited but we can’t talk about any of it.”
The only media assets we have of Halo 5: Guardians is the following cover-art featuring a mysterious Spartan and 343 Industries has also confirmed that the game is powered by a brand new engine.
Its going to be an exciting E3 2014 for Halo series fans. Tell us in the comment section below what you guys are expecting to see in Halo 5: Guardians and according to you who that mysterious Spartan is on cover-art?
