Life is Strange fans were disappointed earlier this year after learning the upcoming spin-off Before the Storm would not feature original voice actress Ashly Burch as miniseries protagonist Chloe Price. But in an official post from the Life is Strange Tumblr, Square Enix and DONTNOD Entertainment revealed Burch is returning to play Chloe in a bonus episode. And she’ll be joined by voice actress Hannah Telle, who returns to star as the original series’ player character, Max Caulfield.
In “Farewell,” a younger Max and Chloe hang out and reminisce about their close friendship before Max goes off to Seattle with her parents. While Square Enix and DONTNOD remain relatively quiet on the episode’s details, voice lines clue us in to some of the scenes, which appear to show Chloe and Max stumbling across items from their childhood memories.
“This young Chloe is very different because I think she’s just much more innocent,” Burch explains in a trailer for the episode. “Her best friend is still around and they get to hang out all the time, so I think this is very much a Chloe before we’ve seen how much the world has kind of shaken her and taken things from her.”
Burch stresses this Chloe is much more “playful,” even though she’s still slightly rebellious. And “Farewell” looks like it will end up being the last time Life is Strange fans really get to see both characters spend time together, as DONTNOD has hinted that the series will eventually move away and focus on other characters.
“Farewell” is planned for 2018 as part of the Life is Strange: Before the Storm Deluxe Edition. No official release date has been announced otherwise for Farewell, although players can already purchase the Deluxe Edition or upgrade to it if they own the base game.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm’s first two episodes are out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with the third and final episode underway.
