During a special Mega Man-themed livestream today, Capcom revealed the latest addition to the long-running Mega Man series: Mega Man 11. It’s real, official, and coming to a cavalcade of consoles: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018. This is the first main numbered Mega Man title in seven years, with Mega Man 10 releasing back in March 2010.
The game’s trailer celebrates the Blue Bomber’s thirtieth anniversary with a nostalgic nod to the past before swapping to a new look for the series that offers a new dimension for the character. Smooth 3D animations and improved animations make this Mega Man look like one to watch, especially since Mega Man 10 relied on nostalgic sprites as its main appeal.
Capcom also announced during the same stream that all eight numbered Mega Man X titles will be coming to Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC at a later date, likely as part of a Mega Man X Collection. This is a set of titles fans have no doubt been clamoring for, as the Mega Man X games are a beloved part of the series that have long been missed on modern consoles. The Switch is indeed the perfect place for them to land.
There’s no official release date scheduled for either Mega Man 11 or the Mega Man X remakes coming, but at least we know we can look forward to 2018 for a brand-new Mega Man platformer. It’s a great time to be a fan.
