The Last of Us: Part II is probably my most anticipated game in the coming year or so. I felt the original was storytelling perfection, and I can’t imagine Naughty Dog will forget how to do that for Joel and Ellie’s next big adventure. Any new information about the game has me halting everything in my life to focus on only that, and today’s new The Last of Us: Part II PS4 trailer from Paris Games Week was no different.
The Last of Us Part 2 Trailer
It’s tough to really understand what’s going on in the trailer. We’re clearly looking at two different factions, but I didn’t look closely enough to see if either group had anything to do with the Fireflies. I’m sure some eagle-eyed viewers will be all over that, so we’ll leave the frame by frame analyzing to those who have the patience for such things.
What I did notice were some very uncomfortable moments. Yes, there was some intense violence with the arrows killing one man, and then a hammer being used to kill a woman, but that wasn’t the tough part for me. The worst was the woman who was briefly hung. Something about having your hands tied behind your back and being helpless is a lot worse than blood and guts for me. Or, perhaps I’ve just been playing too much Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and I’ve become desensitized to it all.
We still don’t have a release date for The Last of Us Part II, but I do have some theories on when we might see that. If we’re getting The Last of Us Part II in 2018, I expect that it will be announced at PlayStation Experience on December 9 and December 10 of this year. I’d also expect that release date to fall in the summer, since Naughty Dog has a habit of releasing games in the warmer months. If we don’t get a release date for The Last of Us Part 2 at PlayStation Experience 2017, we likely won’t see the game until 2019.
