Research firm IHS Technology has released their new report titled “Virtual Reality and Entertainment”. This is the very first IHS’ report on the new generation of virtual reality technology and entertainment, and it indeed comes with some bold claims, the most eye-catching one being: “PlayStation VR will outsell Oculus Rift and HTC Vive” both combined by the end of 2016.
The report states that Oculus Rift and HTC Vive will arrive on retail shelves on retail shelves in early 2016 and combined sales of both of them are going to be over 1 million units, Oculus Rift sales are expected to be around 560,000 and the HTC Vive slightly lower at 440,000. Those might sound an impressive figure for any new product, but IHS’ report further states that PlayStation VR will outsell its competitors despite arriving late on retail shelves. The PlayStation VR is expected to sell around 1.5 million units.
One of the main reason that will play a big part in successful launch PlayStation VR is its price tag, IHS states that it will be lower than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
