A new Pokémon Center will be opening in Tokyo next year, bringing with it the first ever permanent Pokémon Cafe.
The store and cafe will open up on the fifth floor of the Nihonbashi Takashimaya SC East Building in Tokyo on March 14, 2018. It will be the fourth Pokémon Centre to open in Tokyo, joining Tokyo Bay, Mega Tokyo, and Skytree Town.
The Cafe is connected to the upcoming store and will feature Pokémon-themed food and drinks. The Pokémon Company experimented with a cafe in the past to promote upcoming Pokémon movies and games, but Japan has never had a permanent place to eat Pokémon themed treats.
A Pokémon Centre store is a retail store that sells official Pokémon merchandise to the general public. These stores are located in various parts of Japan.
In total, there are 12 Pokémon Centers currently operating in Japan with each store having its own Pokémon mascot and specialty merchandise. Mew seems to be this stores mascot, as shown on the stores logo.
The Pokémon Company has experimented with these stores worldwide and originally had a store located in New York. It opened on Nov. 16, 2001 but closed on January 2005 to be remodelled as a general Nintendo merchandise store.
