Some big changes are coming to Pokémon Go. The company announced today that 50 new gen 3 Pokémon will be coming to the game, along with a slew of other changes.
Trading, one of the most important features fans have been clamoring for and asking about since Pokémon Go’s debut, hasn’t been forgotten about. Archit Bhargava, Niantic’s global product marketing lead, assured fans in an interview with IGN that, since trading was mentioned in the initial launch trailer, it’s “definitely something” the team wants to “get to at some point.” It doesn’t sound like trading is high on the list of priorities for the game at this time, but similar features and other changes are “on the roadmap.”
“We just haven’t fully investigated those and talked about how would we want to bring those into Pokémon Go,” Bhargava said. “So that is definitely something that we’re focused on.” December is going to be an important month in terms of planning for the Niantic team, and several features are currently “in active discussion.”
Aside from trading, higher level caps and increased storage limits are the order of the day, as the Niantic team has even requested from the product and marketing departments themselves.
Most importantly, some very interesting changes are coming to the game in the form of additional Pokémon from the Hoenn region, representing Gen 3. Adding those to the game in addition to a new, dynamic weather system is currently the focus, according to Bhargava. Still, those 50 gen 3 Pokémon account for about only a third of the total, so fans should expect more to come in the coming weeks, according to Niantic.
There’s a new slew of content in the works for the popular AR game, and it certainly seems like Niantic is still committed to rolling out a steady stream of new features to keep fans interested. If you’re looking for a reason to come back to the game after taking a bit of a sabbatical, this may be your best reason to return.
