Sony Admits Lack Of Big-AAA Games In Holiday 2017, says 2018 Games Are Coming In First-Half

God of War: Ascension

A lot were expected from Sony at their PlayStation E3 2017 press conference, but it fell way short of hype and expectations. One of the main criticism that they received from gaming community was that there are hardly anything special coming from them for the all-important Holiday Season 2017 (starting from next few months till Christmas). Apart from Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Horizon Zero Dawn DLC, Gran Turismo Sport, there is anything big coming to PlayStation 4.

God of War - PS4

Sony’s Shawn Layden admitted and accepted the criticism, but reminded PlayStation fans that the first-year of 2017 has been a special one for PlayStation gamers, all thanks to the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, Nioh, Nier Automata, and others.

Shawn further added that some of the big and important AAA games are scheduled to launch in the early part of 2018.

“To be honest, we’re already halfway through 2017, And that’s the nature of game development. No, I feel the lineup we have come into the holidays this year – and GT will launch in the fall – I don’t know if you got to go to the pre-show [hands on event for media]? Well GT was heavily represented there on the floor. We think there is a lot of attention around that title from our company. And the stuff coming in 2018, all of that is coming in the first half of the year, so. Is it in the next 12 to 13 months? Most likely. So.”

2017 games that were showcased at the pre-show that Shawn Layden is talking out (above) were – Everybody’s Golf, Matterfall, Gran Turismo Sport, and third party stuff like Crash and Undertale. It is mostly going to be a third-party show this Holiday.

Now coming to the 2018 part, God of War is one game that has been officially confirmed to arrive in early 2018. Can we add Spider-Man, Shadow of the Colossus Remake to the first half of 2018 – between Jan to June? It would be an amazing line-up if Sony manages to pull it off.

What do you guys think – Can a lack of big-AAA games for PlayStation during Holiday 2017 a big advantage to Microsoft and Xbox One X?
