It was great to see a brand new teaser trailer for Shenmue III at Gamescom 2017. The gameplay sequences showcased in the first teaser of Shenmue III were taken from the still work-in-progress build and the only aim of it was to showcase how far the development team has come since the announcement of Shenmue III Kickstarter at E3 2015.
The graphics and visuals looked great, and so as the environment. Sadly, the weird facial animation of the characters caught the attention of the gaming community and they started slamming Ys Net and Yu Suzuki for it without even taking into account of the fact that this game is still many months away from release i.e. the development team has ample time in their hands to improve things.
I was taken a back by the reactions Shenmue III first teaser got and immediately this thought came to my mind: How can you guys expect a Kickstarted game that didn’t even exist until 2 years ago to have a facial animation like we have seen in Naughty Dog games?
If Facial Animation was the only thing that caught your attention then you need to check this Shenmue III E3 2015 vs Gamescom 2017 Trailer showing where the game was TWO YEARS AGO and how much progress it has made.
