The Sims 4 Introduces Cats and Dogs

I’m not going to lie; I’ve played a healthy amount of The Sims 4 since it was first released over three years ago. I’ve always been a fan of the franchise, and will periodically pick it up when I’m bored and feel like a particularly chill gaming experience. That cycle should continue at some point soon now that the Cats and Dogs DLC has been released, although my true passion in The Sims 4 is to earn a living doing nothing but fishing.

The main feature of the Cats and Dogs DLC is the option to Create a Pet. This includes your pets having unique personalities. It was also important to the development team that you didn’t have to micromanage them, which seemed to take away their soul a bit. Personally, I like hearing this. I tend to go with a single Sim household because I dislike having to constantly manage the needs to two characters. As much as I would like to have a cat or dog join me in The Sims 4, it’s nice to know they aren’t overly needy.

The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs will also introduce Brindleton Bay, a new area that you can take your pets to if you want to enjoy some quality time with them. Brindleton Bay also includes some empty lots that range from 20×15 to 64×64, so get ready to build if that’s more your thing.

For players that love pets and their careers, there will be a new option to open a veterinary clinic and become the town vet. What qualifies you to do this? Well, the same thing that allows me to be a doctor in The Sims 4; desire. Watch the embedded trailer for more on the option to open a veterinary clinic.

If there’s a downside to the Cats and Dogs update, it’s the fact that the price tag is about $40, give or take depending on your country’s currency. If you’ve kept up with The Sims 4 and all its expansions, you’ll be about $200 (or more) into the game by now. That’s fine, but $40 for a DLC seems like a lot considering it’s two thirds the price of a AAA game in the US.

The Sims 4: Cats and Dog is available world-wide on November 10, 2017, and can be purchased from the Origin store if you’re playing the game on PC.
