Earlier this week, Nintendo praised Super Mario Odyssey’s growing popularity, pointing out that the game sold over two million copies worldwide in just three days. And in less than a week, the game is already outselling past Super Mario releases in the U.S. Now, Odyssey is officially the series’ fastest-selling title in U.S. history.
In the game’s first five days, Super Mario Odyssey sold over 1.1 million units in the U.S., a press release reveals. This makes Super Mario Odyssey the fastest-selling Switch title on the market as well. Meanwhile, over 2.6 million Switch units have been sold in the U.S., meaning over 40 percent of all U.S. Switch users own Super Mario Odyssey.
Suffice to say, Nintendo is pretty happy with the news.
“The public continues to respond positively to Mario’s latest adventure,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in the press release. “We’re also seeing sales momentum for Nintendo Switch thanks to an ever-growing catalog of games from large publishers and indie developers.”
Super Mario Odyssey is available now for the Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo eShop, online stores, and physical retailers. Nintendo promises to increase Nintendo Switch units’ supplies in preparation for the holiday season, which will begin once Black Friday starts on Nov. 24.
