Maybe you didn’t notice, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja made several changes to the way the co-op works in Nioh, the just released PS4 exclusive action soulslike game. Yet it’s pretty different in comparison with the way it worked in the previously released alpha and beta tests for PlayStation 4.
“You cannot co-op through the entire game because that would make it too easy for players to beat the game,” said Tom Lee, creative director at Team Ninja in an emailed statement. “We want players to experience Nioh in how it was intended to be. We allowed players to co-op anytime in the last trial demo only because of the limited stages and time to try out the demo.”
From what we learn, developers’ intention is to make players enjoy Nioh in solo mode in their first run, and then have a good time of enjoyment with a friend once they’ve completed it. That’s why co-op is so different now and it’s not as easy as it was in the alpha/beta, although this has made few people upset and I’ve even heard of guys accusing Koei Tecmo of false advertising based on this episode.
