Respawn Entertainment has announced something Titanfall fans will be very happy about. Not only the game is supporting a long awaited single-player/co-op story mode campaign, but it is also featuring free additional map packs and new modes to follow October 28 launch.
Head of development David Wightman has confirmed the news right after EA Play, the event where Titanfall 2 was unveiled and detailed for the first time ever before E3 2016 officially starts.
“We’ll definitely be supporting Titanfall 2 post-launch, and I can confirm all maps and modes we deliver post-launch will be free. We’ll be talking more about post-launch plans closer to release so stay tuned for more info”.
There will be paid DLC for Titanfall 2, it seems, but it is not going to be pay to win stuff which could possibly be ruining the game’s multiplayer experience because “some kid spent an extra £40 on the game”.
“We’re doing this for the community,” he explained, “not the dollars.”
This looks pretty interesting and it is also the way Gears of War 4 is approaching the market. It seems like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 16 free DLC strategy has led the way and showed people in the industry how things should work. Halo 5: Guardians was the first first-party title to bring in such logic and we couldn’t be happier to see third party developers/publisher take a similar approach.
