If you’ve been keeping up with any of the latest Star Wars: Battlefront 2 news over the past few days, you’ll know that EA have an uphill battle on their hands. Issues range from concerns over the Loot Box system, to EA’s own response to the community’s uproar over it. Perhaps overlooked in all this is that players can now try Battlefront 2 for free for 10 hours by downloading the trial on Origin. While this may help gamers to make up their mind about the game, personally I’m most interested in the game’s campaign.
While we will be providing a full review of Battlefront 2 in the near future, we’ve taken this opportunity to play the first three missions. For those of you that don’t want to have anything to do with Origin, trials, or EA at this moment, you still may want to have a look at the videos we recorded below. Perhaps the campaign will hold some redeeming values?
Prologue: The Cleaner
The campaign begins with Iden Verso, the game’s protagonist, in a cell on a Rebel ship. As with most first campaign missions these days, the main purpose of the prologue is to introduce the player to the various controls, and to set up the narrative.
Mission I: The Battle of Endor
The first actual mission of the campaign takes place in a location familiar to every fan of the Star Wars series and helps to instill a sense of playing alongside the bigger missions of the movies.
Mission II: The Dauntless
Battlefront 2 will not only feature combat on various planets and space stations, but also take Iden out into a TIE Fighter. This missions is our first experience with space combat, and if nothing else, it did remind me a bit of the good ol’ days of X-Wing vs TIE Fighter.
Regardless of all the controversy currently surrounding the game’s microtransaction situation, a Star Wars campaign only comes along every so often, and I’m still looking forward to it. Stay tuned to TL;DR Games to find out what we end up thinking of Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
