Sony’s PlayStation 4 managed to beat Microsoft’s Xbox One in terms of sales in nearly every month since both device launched in November 2014. But September 2014 has been a huge month for Microsoft and Xbox One as they managed to beat PlayStation 4 in hardware sales, according to well known Industry Analyst Michael Pachter.
In a note to investor, Pachter estimated that PlayStation 4 sold 250,000 units in September, whereas Xbox One managed to sold 325,000 units.
“We expect Xbox One sales to exceed those of the PS4 for only the second month since launch,” Michael Pachter said in a note to investors.
If True, this is a massive breakthrough for Microsoft considering the fact that in September 2014, Bungie launched its blockbuster sci-fi new IP Destiny. It’s an open secret that Sony marketed Destiny as PlayStation exclusive title even though it was coming to Xbox One and previous gen consoles. So what is the main reason behind shift in momentum towards Microsoft and Xbox One in September?
“From Sept. 7 through [Sept.] 13, Microsoft offered a free game with the purchase of a new Xbox One at participating retailers,” said Pachter.
If you can recollect properly, Sep-Sep 13 was the same week when Destiny launched and during that period Microsoft launched an amazing promotional offer of $400 Xbox One bundle with Madden NFL 15 and Buy Xbox One and get a game for free.
“I kind of think that free Destiny [on Xbox One] was better than [paying] for Destiny on PS4,” Pacther told our friend at GamesBeat. In addition to this, Patchter termed the appeal of Madden NFL 15 bundle as “pretty compelling.”
Please note folks, these a predictions of Michael Pachter, whether correct or not we will find out soon as research firm NPD is all set to release sales figure details of September 2014 this coming Thursday.
