At E3 2016, Microsoft announced that they are working on a brand new Xbox Console currently codenamed as “Xbox Scorpio”. Microsoft termed Xbox Scorpio as the “Most Powerful Console” ever with 8 Cores, 6 TFlops, 320GB/s memory bandwidth and 4K/VR gaming. At what price point Microsoft is going to introduce Xbox Scorpio: Is it going to be in the familiar range of $400 to $500?
Microsoft’s Shannon Loftis in a recent interview to our friend at GameInformer talked about the price point Xbox Scorpio could carry. Shannon Loftis did not directly gave out the price range Microsoft is targetting for Xbox Scorpio but hinted that it is going to be on the expensive side.
Here is the statement of Shannon Loftis on Xbox Scorpio price:
“We’re not talking about price right now, but it is a more premium piece of hardware.”
Xbox Division Boss Phil Spencer, in a recent interview with Eurogamer, termed Xbox Scorpio as a console for players who is focused on 4K gaming, and it is going to be “a premium price” over Xbox One.
“Scorpio is for the person who’s got a 4K television, who’s really focused on 4K gaming. It’s going to be a premium price over what we’re selling this one for, and both of them will exist in the market at the same time. Scorpio is for your 4K gamer. And that’s what we designed it for.”
So the message is pretty clear from Microsoft: Do not expect Xbox Scorpio to come in a familiar price range of $400 to $500 because it is about 4K Gaming.
