No doubt Call of Duty: Black Ops is the most successful and best selling game titles from Treyarch to date. Even after three months of its release, the game continue to sell like a hot cake. Fans demanded some more action with Black Ops from the developer. Left with no option apart from listening to demands of fans “First Strike” Map pack was released exclusively for Xbox 360. For PS3 users it will release on 3rd March.
In First Strike Map pack, gamers basically gets four new multiplayer maps (Kowloon, Discovery, Berlin Wall, and Stadium) which are aimed to provide new challenges and places to explore, a new zombie maps called Ascension adds new elements to the game.
However the big question arise here: Is First Strike worth $15 or 1200 MS points price tag?.. Lets find it out.
Berlin Wall: Give Gamers access to both sides of Cold War Berlin
Its the best multiplayer map among the available four. During entire gameplay it feels like this map was made for Domination. Berlin Wall separates the map into two sides, and in-between them there is a dead zone or “NO MAN’S LAND” where guns shoot at you automatically, if you are within the red zone.
Many gamers get confused and start shooting at these automatic guns, unfortunately there is no way in hell they can beat these things, and the only escape route is “Stay Away”. Developer definitely deserved a PAT ON THEIR BACK, for the way they added this feature in the game.
Snipers will love the Berlin Wall map very much, as most of the action that take place in this map are perfect spot for snipers.
Stadium: Offers fast-paced and close quaters battle which is set in backdrop of sports complex.
At first glance Stadium Map reminds of Fun-House Map in Modern Warfare 2. It features indoor section complete with Ice Hockey Rink. Looking at the various retro poster and items in the map you can make out that it is based in New York of 1972.
Stadium map is filled with tall walls all around, hence it provide wide range of opportunities for camping and drop shooting. Even though the map takes place during the day, many times players will find them sitting in dark corners. The only issue in the map is drop shooting which is due to windows that look over entire map.
Discovery: Set along the coast of Antarctica
The biggest map in First Strike is “Discovery” featuring break-away sections and lots of buildings and open locations for all those gamers who love to snipe and have camp. The addition of many small shelters will keep the close quarters battle very intense and one to watch out for. It can be said that Discovery is very well crafted map by Treyarch which looks and play very well on every game type.
Kowloon: Offers Roof Top Battle in Kowloon City, Hong Kong
Kowloon, a roof top map completely filled with zip lines. Kowloon is relatively small, however it has many different ways and paths to reach a particular place which gives an illusion that map is huge and much larger.
There are two zip line in the middle of the map, one going in each direction. Players who want to have a quick escape or attack can take the zip line. However you need to keep one thing in mind, making use of zip lines leaves you complete vulnerable to enemies.
Ascension offers a new zombies experience which is really very fresh and exciting. The map offer tons of way to get killed and at the same time there is enough escape route to make you feel you can save your life. Instead of making use of teleport, you need to fly from one end of the map to other end in order to escape out of the room landers. To get successful in Ascension team work is the most important thing.
Overall the First Strike Map pack for Black Ops is a good package for fans of the game. Each map in the DLC are very well designed and presented. They offers a showcase the versatility of both long range and short range battle, and offers gamers to experience something new. However the $15 price tag for the First Strike is a little steep.
