NHL 18 will add an Expansion Mode, allowing players to create and built a 32nd NHL team from the ground up, or take on one of 31 existing NHL teams. Adding to a laundry list of new features, EA announced today that an Expansion Mode for NHL 18. As if the Golden Knights weren’t enough, this new mode allows you to create your own NHL franchise. You can even customize it from the ground up, just don’t name it the Golden Knights please. NHL 18 Expansion Mode The Expansion Mode includes two options; a 31-team expansion draft, or a 32-team expansion draft. The former will have you choosing which of 31 current NHL teams to run. The latter will allow you to create your own NHL team from the ground up. Reshape the entire NHL and create and draft a 32nd NHL team. Select the hometown for your team from cities all across North America and even in Europe – from Stockholm to Helsinki to Berlin to St. Petersburg. Customize everything about your team including the team name, the arena, the jerseys and even the mascot. Partly because having 31 teams in the league seems silly, this Expansion Mode is a welcome addition to NHL 18. The franchise has always done well with giving you lots of cities to choose from when you select their hometown, so hopefully this extensive list will extend to Expansion Mode. The game also got a Franchise Mode trailer today, and hidden in there was a gem of information that veteran players will appreciate. NHL 18 will give you the option to offer contract extensions mid-season, which is a feature I’ve been wanting for years. One player you can expect won’t be left unprotected by his team in your expansion draft is NHL 18 cover athlete Connor McDavid. You’ll have to move on to Plan B on this one. You can grab NHL 18 on the PS4 or Xbox One on September 15, 2017. Pre-order the Young Stars Deluxe edition and you will get 40 Gold Plus HUT packs.
