At some point, you’re going to need to grab the Frog’s Song of Soul, which you get by conquering the Signpost Maze. The Signpost Maze is a puzzle you’re going to need to solve by approaching a series of signposts in a particular order to unlock it. Here’s how you go about it.

To note, you should know you’re going to need to hookshot to complete this puzzle. If you don’t have it yet, you’re not ready to enter this part of the game.

How to Complete the Signpost Maze in Link’s Awakening

To gain access to the Signpost Maze, you’re going to need to go southeast of Mabe Village. There, you’re going to locate a significant number of signposts in the middle of a small forest clearing. You should see small bodies of water in the middle of them. The first signpost you need to approach is the one between the tree and the chopped down tree. It’s going to be the one in the middle of the clearing, directly down from where the clearing’s entrance in the yellow dirt.

Before you get involved Signposte Maze, it’s essential to note the trick about this puzzle. When you approach a sign, it’s going to tell you to go in a specific direction. You want to go down that direction and find the signpost immediately at the end of that small route. When you do, approach it and get directions to the next sign. You do this until you reach the final sign and complete the maze. However, the course does not come from Link’s standing position. You’re going to move according to where the sign’s location.

For example, if a sign tells Link to go to the right, you’re not going to go to the first sign Link encounters when he’s standing in front of the sign. You want to put Link perpendicular to the sign and then go to the right until Link hits the next sign. That’s the correct one. If you only rush to the one where Link is standing, you’re going to get messed up and have to start over.

Here’s the order of the signposts:

  • The first one is going to send you to the right. You want the signpost in front of some pink flowers.
  • The second one is going to send you down. You want the signpost in front of a lush, green bush.
  • The third one is going to send you to the left. You’re going to need your hookshot to catch the bottom crate on the other side. Get there, destroying boto the crates.
  • The fourth signpost is going to send you up. You’re going to the sign two spaces behind the chopped tree. Make sure to avoid the hole right two spaces in front of it.
  • The fifth one is going to send you to the right. You want the sign directly in front of the tall grass.
  • The sixth one is going to send you down. You want the sign with pink flowers to its left.
  • The seventh one is going to send you to the right. You’re going to want to sign with a boulder to its left. You’re going to stand in tall grass in front of it.
  • The eighth one is going to send you up. You’re going to want the sign in the middle of the tree trunk and the full tree.
  • The ninth one is going to send you to the left. You’re going to want the sign with the hole to its left.
  • The tenth one is going to send you down. You want the sign in water, directly below it.
  • The eleventh one is going to send you to the right. You want the sign with the boulder to the left of it.
  • The twelveth one is going to send you down. You want the sign with the large boulder in front of it. Destroy the rock to read it.
  • The thirteenth one is going to send you to the left. You want the sign with the large tree to its left, with tall grass in front of it. When you read it, some stairs are going to show up, and you’ll have completed the maze.
