Patrick Soderlund leaving Electronic Arts after nearly 20 years of his service was not the only bad news for the publisher. According to a new report from the Analyst at the Wall Street Journal, the pre-orders for the upcoming Battlefield game, Battlefield V is one the “weaker” side as compared to its main competitor Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

On the departure of Patrick Soderlund from Electronic Arts, Analyst Cowens said: “Electronic Arts’ chief design officer is leaving just two months before the launch of a new installment of one of its biggest franchise, Battlefield. Patrick Soderlund had been with EA for nearly two decades and worked out of its DICE Studio in Stockholm that makes the war-themed video game series.”

Black Ops 4 Pre-order Sales Better Than Battlefield V

Talking about the pre-order sales of Battlefield V, Cowen said it has been “weak”, whereas Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are showing “greater pre-order demand”. For those who don’t know why there is a comparison between pre-order sales of Battlefield V, Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2: the next Battlefield game is scheduled to launch between the next Call of Duty and the next Red Dead Redemption game. It is a situation similar to what we have seen in 2016: EA released Titanfall 2 between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and we all know how this situation impacted Titanfall 2 sales – it sold POORLY.

According to analyst Cowen, this year’s Battlefield game (Battlefield V) could suffer the same fate as Titanfall 2.

“Earlier this month, Cowen said pre-order sales of “Battlefield V” have been weak. It is due for release in between Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty game and Take-Two Interactive Software’s Red Dead Redemption sequel, both of which Cowen says are showing greater pre-order demand. Cowen says Battlefield V could suffer the same fate as Titanfall 2, which was released in between two major game launches in 2016 and sold poorly.”

It seems like EA and Battlefield franchise is going to have some tough time ahead. We will keep an eye on this upcoming competition, so stay tuned to Gamepur for more updates. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled to launch on October 12, Battlefield V on October 19, and Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26.

Back in July 2018, Michael J. Olson and Yung Kim (an analyst group) stated that Black Ops 4 is going to beat both Battlefield V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to take the crown of Best Game of Fall 2018. The group expected the game to sell 19.4 million units by the end of 2018.
